Differentiating paid content from free content using the MARC Records

The only way to get MARC records that identify paid content or content with restricted access vs free content is to download them directly from NFB.ca, in the MARC Records section.

To do this, you must first have created and confirmed your NFB.ca account, and have obtained the designated authorization for librarians you can request to our Client Relations and Support team.

For OCLC members, the tag 506 which allows to identify access to content restrictions is unfortunately not available. Indeed, due to provider neutrality guidelines on their end, this identifier is automatically removed during data synchronization processing (see Provider-Neutral E-Resource MARC Record Guide: P-N/RDA Combined Version). For more information on these guidelines, please contact OCLC at the following address: supportcanada@oclc.org.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you have any questions or comments.
