How do I cast films from the NFB films app to my TV?

The NFB films app has options to cast films with AirPlay or Chromecast to your TV.

To use those features you will need:

  • The free NFB films app on your mobile device;
    AND
  • A suitable wireless connection;
    AND
  • A TV with an HDMI port, a casting device (Apple TV (AirPlay), Chromecast);
    OR
  • An AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV;
    OR
  • A TV with Chromecast built-in.

To download the app, simply go on the App Store of your mobile device and search for “NFB Films”. From the search results, select the NFB Films app and click on GET to download it on your device

Note: If you see the OPEN option instead of GET, it means that you already have the app. You can select OPEN to access its main page.

HOW TO CAST WITH AIRPLAY to YOUR TV 

You can use AirPlay to stream the films from the NFB Films app on your Apple devices (iphone or iPad) to your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.

STEP 1: Connect your device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.

STEP 2: In the NFB Films app, find the film that you would like to stream.

STEP 3: Click on the AirPlay icon on the top right of your screen.

STEP 4: A window will open on your mobile device, choose your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.

HOW TO CAST WITH CHROMECAST to YOUR TV 

You can use a Chromecast to stream the films from the NFB Films app from your mobile devices  to your TV. You must be running the latest version of the NFB Films apps

NOTE : You will need to have the Google Home app downloaded onto your mobile device  and your Chromecast properly set up.

STEP 1: Connect your mobile device or tablet to the same Wi-Fi network as your as your Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in. You may also cast from iOS devices running iOS 13.

STEP 2: In the NFB Films app, find the film that you would like to stream.

STEP 3: Click on the Chromecast icon on the top right of your screen.

STEP 4:  Select the device you’d like to cast to.

STEP 5 : Press the PLAY button on the Film detail page to begin playing the film . You can use the functions on your Chromecast controller (play, pause, mute, etc).
